Happy 75th Anniversary!
A Distinguished Past. An Exciting Future

How many cakes does it take to celebrate one birthday? Eighty to be exact if you’re celebrating the 75th anniversary of the opening of Duke Hospital.

That’s the number of cakes that will be cut and shared with the Duke Medicine faculty and staff on Thursday, July 21 during the kickoff event to a year-long celebration of Duke University Medical Center’s 75th anniversary.

Duke Hospital opened its doors to patients on July 21, 1930...Throughout the upcoming academic year (July 1, 2005 - June 30, 2006), Duke Medicine will celebrate its 75th anniversary with many special events and activities -- from the Duke Hospital 75th Birthday Celebration to special gifts for all Duke Medicine employees, a 75th anniversary web site with archival photos and a timeline, commemorative personal checks and plates, national scientific and medical symposia, and more.

The year-long event...Duke Medicine has created a special 75th Anniversary Web Site located at http://dukehealth.org/75th. This site features a pictorial timeline of DUMC, articles about Duke Medicine through the years, a list of 75th anniversary events and other 75th anniversary resources. The site also will house a historical video of DUMC that is scheduled to be released in the fall.
